Michael O'Grady

About Michael

Michael Playing Guitar So contrary to popular belief Michael O'Grady was NOT born with a tin whistle in his hand - but he may have stirred his pablum with it.

It seems music has always been a major part of this singer-songwriter's life. Born in Toronto, ON O'Grady attended St. Michael's Choir School where he studied theatre, vocals and piano. On the side he learned guitar, tin whistle, accordian and Irish Dance (you know normal activities for a teenage boy). In 1993 Michael formed his first band,"Cuchalain's Lament" in Oakville, ON and started honing his craft. From there he went on form Supacheez, Vitamin G, The Michael O'Grady Band and, most recently, The Odd Little Man Club. A fixture in the Toronto music scene, O'Grady's live show is definetely a "must see." Witty and engaging he captivates his audience everytime. 2004 saw the the release of his first CD," The Legend of Teabagger Vance." With brillant imagery and straight from the heart storytelling, "Teabagger Vance" showcases his incredibly diverse songwriting talents.

Michael Playing Accordian In 2005 O'Grady's stage presense and whistle playing caught the eye and ear of The Mahones creator and lead singer, Finny McConnell. By the spring of 2006 Cheese (as he's affectionately known by his friends) was the newest member of Canada's favorite celtic-punk band. With The Mahones Michael has traveled all over Canada, The states and Europe -including a St. Patrick's Day stop at EuroDisney! Which he admits to "having felt a little Goofy." (insert groan here)

Because O'Grady apparently isn't busy enough with his solo shows, The Mahones and work on his second CD he recently added a theatre revue to his itinerary. "The Magic of Ireland" is a mix of Irish dancers and a live band. As musical director and band leader Michael has been leading this troupe through 2 extensive tours of Canada and the United States. Singer, songwriter, guitarist, tin whistle and accordian player, member of one of Canada's favorite bands, leader of a musical theatre revue, successful solo artist, one CD and another on the way - not bad for a guy with one eyebrow.
